This page highlights CUMC's many fellowship
groups, programs and activities. While these are primarily focused
on building social relationships, many have spiritual content as well.
The following briefly describes these activities:
Book Club
The
Book Club meets the 4th Tuesday evening of the month at the home of
Anneke Dodge to enjoy fellowship, fun, light refreshments and insightful
discussion about the book for the month. The book is a starting
point for conversations that are both global and personal. Books
are recommended by group members and can be found on best- seller lists,
United Methodist Women Reading Lists and everywhere in between.
Everyone is welcome to join at any time.
Faith Friends
Faith Friends is
our Fellowship group for all children in 3rd–5th
grade. This group meets on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month and
is involved in several types of service opportunities. We also have
many opportunities for fellowship and fun. We meet in room 7
from 11:15 – 12:30 unless otherwise indicated. Please contact
Theresa at
Theresa@cumchb.org if you have any questions

Family Life
The Family Life Committee plans multi-generational activities and
events for CUMC's church family. In addition to the three
"regular" annual events noted below, one or two other events are
scheduled throughout the year. You can check the
annual calendar for details. The yearly programs include:
Church Camp - Church camp at Sky Meadow Camp in the Big
Bear Area.
Church Picnic - We gather, usually during August, for a
picnic which includes a BBQ and games.
Advent Workshop - Our church family gathers to celebrate
the Advent season. We have lunch and make Christmas ornaments
and crafts.
Scrapbooking Workshops In addition to Family
Life's annual events, we scrapbook once a month on Friday nights
from 6:00 pm to midnight. Dinner is served (freewill donation)
and child care is provided. Specific dates can vary, so please
check the
weekly calendar.

Friday Fellowship
Friday
Fellowship, a special time of music and activity for the children
involved in the "Joyful Noise" choir, meets from 5–6
p.m. each Friday. The children enjoy a variety of
activities during which choir members get to know one another
better. Part of the time is used for rehearsal when necessary,
but we also play games, do community-building activity or craft
projects, and just "hang-out" during snack time. The idea
is: "The more we get together, the better we'll be!"
"Joyful Noise" is a choir
for all children in grades 2–5
which has rehearsal on Sunday mornings in the Choir Room from 9:30–10
a.m. While the children are not required to attend Friday
Fellowship, most do come regularly. To sign up for "Joyful Noise",
just come to the Choir Room between services on Sunday morning.

Journey to Easter
This
annual event, the
Saturday before Palm Sunday, is an event especially for families with
children in Preschool through 3rd grade to share
in together. There are activity stations that can be experienced in any
order. We make Easter wreaths, play games, make "stained" glass
butterflies, bake resurrection buns and much more. There is a nominal
cost of $5 per family to cover materials, and families can sign up by
calling the church office.
Check the
annual calendar for the schedule and
the Chimes newsletter for further details.

Monday Morning Fixers
This is a small group of hardy (and hearty) souls who come to the
church on Mondays at 9:00 am, and by noon have either repaired,
replaced, painted, removed, put back, rearranged, adjusted, setup
and taken down most of the maintenance-related "to-do" items for the
church plant and property. Still, they have time to socialize
during a 10:30 am coffee break. They are led by our fearless
Maintenance Director who says, "I can do all things through
Christ which strengtheneth me" (Phil 4:13). The group welcomes
newcomers who wish to enjoy fellowship while serving God and the
church.

Mothers and Others
Mothers & Others is an enriching fellowship, study, and support
group that meets each Tuesday morning in the library from 9:30 until
11:30 am during the school year. The meetings are generally
structured around multi-week studies that can range from specific
books of the Bible to “women like us” wisdom for today’s issues, and
many others. The studies help the participants learn how they can
make a difference in their family, the church and the community.
The weekly session starts at 9:30, with fellowship until 10:00, and
moves on to the study-book and scripture readings from 10:00 until
about 11:00. The session ends with a 30-minute period of prayerful time to share joys and concerns. The
group also takes a free-will offering to sponsor a child from the
Christian Children’s Fund. Come and join the group
– the conversation and fellowship are great and there are wonderful
snacks!

Senior Lunch Club
The Senior Lunch Club meets the last Wednesday of each month. This
can change to avoid conflict with holidays such as Thanksgiving or
Christmas, so please check the weekly
calendar. Potluck lunch and fellowship starts promptly at
12 noon in Moore Hall. After the meal there is an entertaining
and enlightening program, often involving an outside speaker.

If
you are single, like to have fun and be in fellowship with other
singles, then join us for lunch. Each month, on the last
Sunday of the month, we meet after 2nd service (about 11:10 am) and
head to a local restaurant. Contact Shirley LaBounta for more
information.

Supper
Club
This is an excellent way to meet and get acquainted with fellow
church members. Groups of 8 –10 people are organized three
times per year. Typically, each group meets once a month for
four months. Gatherings are held at the host couple's or
person's home, where conversation and good food are always enjoyed.
The Supper Club organizer, Chuck Morelock assigns the lead hosts who
are responsible for arranging the first meeting of the group.
The host home is rotated from month-to-month, as scheduled by the
group. The hosts provide the main dish and refreshments and
other group members are assigned to bring hors d'oeuvres, salad,
vegetable dish, and dessert. To sign up for Supper Club,
contact Chuck or the church office (714-842-4461).

UMW
The organized unit of United Methodist Women is a community of women
whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons
through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative,
supportive fellowship,
and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global
ministries of the church. CUMC’s
local unit
consists of seven
circles
and two quilting groups. The circles and
quilters groups are open to all women of the church and meet once a
month in private homes or at the church for fellowship, study and
handiwork. It is not necessary to be a member of a circle or a quilting
group to belong to UMW. Regular General Meetings are open to all
women and include speakers and activities that keep the unit focused on
its purpose as a second-mile mission organization. For more details on
the larger UMW organization please visit
www.unitedmethodistwomen.com.

UMW - Circles
Under the
umbrella of our local United Methodist Women’s (UMW) organization there are two day and five night circles which meet
once a month, either at the church or in a private home, to enjoy
fellowship, joys and concerns, refreshments, and lively, enthusiastic
discussion. The goal of most circle activities is support of the
missions and outreach program, and projects of the UMW organization. The
groups are open to all women of the church, but one does not have to
join a circle to enjoy the larger UMW fellowship.

UMW - Quilting Groups
Under the
umbrella of our local United Methodist Women’s
(UMW) organization there are two fellowship groups who enjoy the art of
handwork: quilting; knitting; crocheting; sewing; stitchery and
embroidery. The Morning Glories meet two Fridays a month at
the church (contact Barbara Olson, 714–846–2228) while the Late Bloomers gather once a month at the
home of Ardis Paek (714–842–1718). All are welcome, beginner or advanced, in whatever
type of handwork is of interest
– whatever needs to be done is accomplished while they work and
fellowship together. The groups frequently offer their handwork
gratis to local support organizations, or for sale at CUMC’s bi-annual
UMW Boutique. Proceeds go
to the missions projects of the larger UMW organization.
